Leeds to Wakefield

Starting in Clarence Dock Leeds, home to the Royal Armouries Museum this cruise finishes at Wakefield home to the new Hepworth Gallery we pass along the Aire and Calder navigation through a variety of scenery and past the quite amazing Stanley Ferry Aqueduct.

Thought to be the largest cast iron aqueduct in the world two cast iron segmental arch open web ribs span the river, held in place by masonry abutments.

The cast iron trough is 165ft long, 24ft wide and 8ft 6in deep, and is suspended from the arches by 35 two and a quarter inch diameter wrought iron hangers at 3ft centres and holds 940 tons of water.

We pass through a number of the large fully automated navigation locks before coming into Leeds.

This cruise offers the opportunity to visit a great new gallery and a fabulous museum as well as experiencing the huge navigation locks, interesting scenery and the great Stanley Ferry aqueduct.
